I was blessed to be born and raised in a Christian home and have always experienced love from my parents, my husband and family. All my life I’ve known about Jesus, but lacked assurance of my salvation.
In February of 1958, my husband, myself and 3 of the 7 sons we had at the time moved from Iowa to California to find a better job opportunity with health insurance and other benefits. It was a very difficult time in my life. Our 4th son was born a couple of weeks after our move. My husband worked swing shift, so I was alone at nights with all the little ones and became very lonely and even bitter.
That summer my neighbor, Grace, invited the children and I to a Missionary Rally under the big tent at Valley Christian School. It was at that event that God spoke to me in a special way, through a song that was sung called “Amazed.” The song says “I am amazed that God could ever love me, so full of sin, so covered over with shame. Make me to walk with Him who is above me, cleansed by the power of His redeeming name. I am amazed that God would choose to bless me; choose me an heir to riches of His grace; till that perfection shall at last possess me, He has redeemed for all who seek His face. I am amazed that God would ever save me, naught but the cross could take away my sins, through faith in Christ, eternal life He gave me, now He abides forever more within. “ The Holy Spirit touched my heart and I began to weep, because of my sins and because Jesus loved me so much. It changed my life and gave me the assurance and peace I’d always needed and wanted. 1 John 5:13 “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” The Lord continues to sow the seed of faith in my life and it gives me much joy to share the “Good News” with my family and friends and anyone who He brings in my life.
I know and have experienced, through a bout with cancer, the loss of my husband through a lengthy illness and death, and many other tests of faith, that the Lord will never leave or forsake me. In His grace and mercy and love, Jesus has prepared a place for me and all who believe, to see Him face-to-face and live with Him for all eternity. There is no greater joy.
